Kansas Geography

Introduction

In this WebQuest you will pick a section of Kansas and research it.  You will then create a power point or a flyer using the information that you have found about Kansas geography.  You may study the region using a number of different categories provided, or ones you can think of yourself.

Why do you think people found Kansas appealing and decided to move here? 



The Task

You will pick one of he following sections of Kansas:  North Central, Northeast, Northwest, South Central, Southeast, Southwest. 

After you pick your region you will research that region and find facts that you found interesting.  You can use information from the following categories and one you chose yourself.

  • Physical Environment
  • Rivers and Lakes
  • Climate
  • Plants and Animals
  • Mineral Resources
  • Any other categories you can think of

Once you have compiled you information you will organize it in a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint or in a flyer using Microsoft Publisher.



The Process

To accomplish the task you will have to first select a section of Kansas.  You may choose from North Central, Northeast, Northwest, South Central, Southeast, or Southwest.  After you have selected the area of Kansas you would like to research you will begin using the internet to find appropriate resources. After you have selected the area of Kansas you are going to research you should follow the following steps to create and finish your project.

  1. First begin browsing websites for information about Kansas Geography
  2. When you find websites that you find interesting begin recording facts you would like to share with the class.
  3. If you are going to create a PowerPoint project make sure you have enough information to fill at least five slides.  If you are going to create a flyer make sure you have enough information to fill the front and back of a page.  (Your information can include pictures and words.)
  4. Once you have compiled all your information organize it in to a manner that you would like to use for your presentation or flyer.
  5. After you have organized your information begin enterting it into either your presentation or flyer.
  6. Make sure you proofread and edit your project when you are done enterting your information.

Here is a number of websites that you can use to start your research. Remember however these are just suggestions and if you find other apropriate websites you may use them. Don't forget to put your sources somewhere on your project.

While organizing and entering your information in your project you may use a number of different organizing tactics. You may use a graphic organizer, a flowchart, pictures, bullets, or paragraph form. Whatever you find to work the best is fine, as long as you get your point across.



Evaluation

Describe to the learners how their performance will be evaluated. Specify whether there will be a common grade for group work vs. individual grades.

Conclusion

By doing this project you will have learned about a specific region in Kansas.  You will have compiled information about this region using a number of different categories and entered that information into either a presentation or a flyer.  You now have an expanded knowledge on the state of Kansas and will be able to share this information with your classmates when asked to.
